Renowned Sports power-house Nike is putting together this enormous running event that estimates one million participants running 10 kilometers each. The event held across 24 cities across the globe is known as the "The Nike+ Human Race 10K", and around 10,000 places have been reserved for Singaporeans, with every individual runner receiving a Nike race-tee with a unique number emblazoned on the front. In other words, to me, that means I can walk down Orchard Road & not find another T-shirt bearing the same number as mine, unlike the Standard Chartered 42.195km marathon. =P

Singapore will also be the ONLY South East Asian country to be featured in this race that includes major cities such as London, Madrid, Shanghai, Warsaw, Los Angeles, Melbourne & Vancouver as official venues.

Starting from the Esplanade & ending at The Padang, the race route will take runners around iconic, historical, cultural city landmarks & through many of the city's scenic neighbourhoods like the Singapore Flyer, Esplanade Bridge & Lau Pa Sat. The uniqueness of this event is the leverage of music to introduce, incite & involve the youth of today. The sound of the event will be amplified right from the beginning of the race throughtout the route till the finish-line with a finale concert that will be staged by local & international performances by bands like EIC, percussion outfit Wicked Aura, & Boston rock band Boys Like Girls on hand to pump up the volume & energy levels.

Words have it that running aside us in the race are triathlete Mok Ying Ren & Ultra-marathon winner Jeannette Wang. From the local celebrity side, we have Joanne Peh, Nick Shen & Ix Shen running with us too. Maybe we can get a photo taking session with them? =P sounds cool...

Apart from the interesting fact that we are running with 24 other cities across the globe at exactly the same time, and the obvious health benefits of preparing for & running the race... the next reason is that it's for charity. You get to choose one of the three global charity organisations to receive part of the registration fees. They are: The World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF), The Lance Armstrong Foundation, & The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). I know there's the tendency for people to worry as to how much of these proceeds actually go to charity, after some unhappy examples per se. But that shouldn't be excuse or stumbling block to stop believing in the act of charity... =) So let's loosen up & run, be it charity or not.

Most importantly, is to have fun~! 10km of painful fun... hahaha. I learnt that when I tried running 10km around Potong Pasir, Bishan Park & Ang Mo Kio, with my pal WC last night. We took around 50 minutes to complete the whole distance... That resulted in the aching of my legs the next morning (can't run Shear's Bridge for training that morning)... haha... Need to, have to train up for the race...~
